Shooters Party Tabling Another Firearms Ammendment Bill

| March 26, 2010 | 1 Comment

Roy Smith MLC, is soon to table a new Firearms Amendment bill in parliment.

We talked about this bill and other things on Hunt & Shoot Radio last week.

Roy said that the bill was to further the last amendments which abolished the 28 day waiting period for PTA’s (for 2nd and subsequent firearms) and allowed non-licensed people to shoot on ranges with supervision.

The new bill will mainly tackle “red tape” but has some interesting things:

- clarifying the exemptions that apply to antique firearms
- exempt air rifles from the requirement of registration and permits to acquire
- reduce licence fees and link them to NSW drivers licence fees
- allow NSW servicemen and women to renew licences even though they may not currently be resident in NSW
- recognise licences of servicemen and women resident in NSW but issued in another state
- reduce the current prohibition of 10 years for persons who have been subject to a domestic violence order to 5 years.
Things of interest to most NSW residents will be the attempt to remove the need for air rifles to be registered (you will still need a license to own one). The other major thing will be trying to lower the licensing fees.
Either way more great stuff from The Shooter’s Party.

Sounds a great move, hope it all goes through smoothly.

Shame it is only NSW and not QLD also.
