The action, the feel which for some is a draw back comes into it's own for quick follow up shots or scrub busting hogs and with use you do get used to it. I am hard on guns and hunt some fairly rugged country but the 22 yo rifle although looking very knocked about and worn performs beautifully. So for value and practicality, I am happy. I have a rem 7600 pump in 30.06 which has served me very well. Have owned Browning (3 different types and Cal's) Styer, Ruger and some others that don't rate but for my money the one that stands out for quality and value is Sako. Maybe I'm prejudiced, I guess everyone has a favorite. Some like Fords, some like Holden. I'll take the Sako I’ve got Blaser, Rem, Win and Sako now. The 243 in a 55 grain bullet is much flatter shooting than the 223, and gives the option of a 90 grain bullet as well. The interchangeable barrels don't lose zero when changed either, and only take a minute to swap. The removable magazine fits both calibers. The Mannlicher Luxus is a beautifully made gun, only problem is the entire package, scopes etc, would be nearly $5000! My favourite "big" rifle is my Remington bolt action in 30-06. The 30-06 to me is an awesome round, powerful enough for nearly anything (I've shot over 20 water buffalo with this gun), not too expensive to shoot (one dollar per round), and capable of some great long range shots as it still has enough energy left for an efficient kill at 4 0r 500 metres (400 is my personal best) or more depending on the target species. It also has a terrific range of bullet weights available, from 110 grain up to 220 grain. On the downside, it does give your shoulder a bit of a hiding!
