The 2010 Victorian Duck season.
The Victorian Duck season for 2010 opens on Saturday March 20 and closes on Sunday May 30, 2010.
The Bag Limit a hunter may take, is up to five game ducks with a maximum of one Australasian Shoveler, per day. Hunters can also take an additional three wood duck per day.
This is good news for hunters as this years season is longer than last years season and the bag limit has also been increased.
So now is the time to get out to those swamps and check out where the ducks are and either post your shooting spot or erect a new duck hide.
In the next week or so I will be heading down to the swamps near Sale in Gippsland to build up my old hide from last year. This is a tradition in Gippsland and some duck hides have been in use by the same shooters for over 50 years. So if you are new to the area please respect these traditions and don’t get too close to existing hides. There is plenty of room for everyone.
Young hunter Ryan, proudly holds his first duck ever, that he shot last season. A fine male Chestnut Teal taken on Dowds Morass near Sale.
