Sunday Sambar Hunt

| July 28, 2010 | 0 Comments

While this hunt was taking place, in another part of the Victorian high country people were coming to terms with the tragedy of a young hunter accidentally shot. Luke and his mate Aaron were both deeply saddened by the news on their return from the bush. As young hunters themselvs it was a stark reminder of just how important firearms safety is while deer hunting.

From the photo below it is easy to see how deer and hunters can both blend into the background. This makes it very important to always positively identify your target and what’s behind it.

This short video taken by Aaron, describes the hunt. In this case although Arron and Luke were hunting together, only Luke was in a possition for a clear shot.

The photo below shows Arron posing with the Stag prior to butchering.

Once photo’s are taken the hard work begins. The back straps and legs are removed and all the meat  is packed out to the car.
