Hilltop Shooting Complex Approved
After a long and arduous battle, Shooters of South-West Sydney, South Coast & Southern Highlands will have a world class shooting complex.
The NSW State Government amended some planning laws that now allows the development to progress. The site is the same location as the Southern Highlands Rifle Club Range and will be a boon for local business and shooters.
The proposal includes:
Retention of the existing 800 metre rifle range and ancillary facilities;
An additional 500 metre rifle range;
A new 50 metre pistol range;
A new combined 200 metre rifle and pistol shooting range;
A new shotgun range;
A new indoor air pistol range; and
A clubhouse, internal access roads, car parking, generator and water tanks.
Though residents have vehemently opposed the complex I have been to the site and feel that it is far enough away from the township as to not bother anyone significantly. Granted I don’t live there but I have spent a lot of time in the middle of town before and have never heard a shot whilst the range has been operating.
Measured out on Google Earth, the firing line to the nearest house is around 2.98km as the crow flies and around 6km to the centre of town so its not as if its 500m outside of down and there is dense bushland between the two so that will give you an idea of the impact it will have. Not only that but there has already been a range here for many many years.
Let’s hope that we can not get some use out of the 5.1 million dollar shooting complex within the next year or so.

What’s the chance of getting one to the East of Melbourne?
And if the Govt (in all it’s money-grabbing-property-developing wisdom) decide to close the ANZAC rifle range at Malabar – which they have been wanting to do for over 20 yrs – it won’t just be the target shooters of the South/Southern Highlands which will be descending on it.
as you say – you don’t live there – I live four km away and can hear it IN MY HOME – leave us alone and shoot in your own backyards – its a dirty payoff to the Shooters Party for past favours everyone knows that – we will continue to stop it.
Jules,
I’ve had to move before due to nearby developments, it sucks but if you don’t like it you pack up and move, that’s just the way the world works unfortunately.
Now I’ve been in the centre of town whilst the range is open and haven’t heard anything but I don’t know where you live.
I do look forward to shooting on the new range and I do hope my shooting doesn’t detrimentally impact residents of hill top but I haven’t shot there yet nor have I heard shots in town so I will have to get the facts for myself.
